I just wanted to share with you some information about Borax, as it is an ingredient I use in my Handcrafted Whypped Creme face and body moisturizer for normal to dry skin. Short version, unless you have an allergy to it, it is safe for you to use. But, here is some information about it.

Borax — Sodium Tetraborate — is a naturally occurring mineral found in dried salt beds. It consists of sodium, water, oxygen, and boron.

Borax is not the same as Boric Acid, though it is used in making it.

Borax is ONLY toxic in extremely high doses, as is even table salt.

Borax is classified as a non-carcinogenic, and a MILD skin irritant. It has a pH of 9.5, high alkalinity. If it gets ingested, it will quickly pass through your urine. It is a MILD lung irritant without permanent damage. To avoid this, wear a mask when working with it to prevent this, but it is not necessary if you are just adding it to your wash. It cleans clothes very well, and is a natural water softener.

It does not penetrate the skin, so the very small amount used in my moisturizers is a non issue. It is non accumulative. When mixed with water, which I do before adding it to my other ingredients, it creates Hydrogen Peroxide.

The MSDS product sheet lists it as a health hazard of only 1 — the same as baking soda. It is a natural anti-fungal and anti-viral ingredient, but it is not anti-bacterial.

Boron is an essential trace mineral. You only need a small amount but deficiencies in this can cause serious health issues. It can help rebuild bones and teeth; thus, keeping arthritis at bay. It can balance hormones, help with the absorption of magnesium, calcium and phosphorus, help with brain function in aging, strengthen long and short term memory, keep communication between cells active, and help with eye-hand coordination and dexterity. It is essential for the parathyroid glands.

Whypped Creme face and body moisturizers are made with only four ingredients. No fragrance or essential oils are added. They are handcrafted in small batches. 🥰
