There has been much controversy and consideration what this book is about. Is it really an explicit conversation between a man and a woman? Or is ti a conversation between God and Israel? Thou, it seems unlikely that God would mention lips, breasts, kisses, etc. Some say the words were compiled by Solomon (after all, he did have many women in his life), or that it might have been written by a woman, or that someone simply compiled poetry written by many men used at wedding celebrations.

No one knows for sure, and it appears that God is not mentioned, so it probably wasn’t composed by Him. And yet, He is everywhere in the poetry, for He is the One who made man and woman to be together, in love, and in love-making. It is about committed love, everlasting love, undying love “Always keep me in our heart.” True and real love cannot be any other way. God is the One who said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply.’ The only way for that is to get together very physically.

Those who think this is a book just about sex, have a wrong impression about what true love means. It is mentioned by one woman that she wants to be surrounded with fragrant wildflowers, and mandrakes (which is considered an aphrodisiac and the root even looks like a torso with legs. It has been used as a fertility enhancer, and enticer.

“I am my Beloved’s, and my Beloved is mine.” Verse 6:3

I will say that if you do read it, it was written a long time ago, and you may have to stretch your thoughts to see the same descriptions that the author writes about…’Your breasts are like twin fawns of a gazelle ….’ hmmm…
