I felt guilty about working on my writing while at my job. Then I got laid off. And I realized the company I worked for felt no compunctions about leaving me without a job with extremely little warning. — Zulie Rane
My guess is they caught on to what she was doing and realized they could probably hire someone part-time. Or, they felt no compunctions about it because neither did she feel that way about 'cheating' on the job. The cheating here goes in the form of taking money that wasn't deserved/worked for, as well, and I think that is called stealing.
But, Zulie, if you have the talent that is making this now hustle your main work, you will really get to see what you are made of because it's all on you. I wish you well. Life is full of lessons, and they are only meant to hone and transform us. Guilt just let's us know we are going against our own spirit.
