Well, I know I won’t eat the scorpions skewered in the picture in front of this article, but I also don’t eat sushi because I don’t eat raw fish or meats, to the best of my knowledge. That said, I would probably eat the insects if they were in powdered form, or in a way I wouldn’t see their bodies. I practice Oriental Medicine and there are several herbal formulas that use insect parts — cicada’s and scorpion’s molting, bat excrement, earth worms, etc., but they are usually put into a pot and cooked with other plants and strained — you drink the tea made from it.

I would be concerned about an insect farm bringing in more spiders and centipedes, and other creatures who eat bugs. Vegans or vegetarians aren’t going to touch it, and if they are already hidden ingredients in store bought foods, you could create an issue for them purchasing these products. Other farmed raised creatures, like salmon or venison, just don’t have the same nutrition as if they were eating natural foods in their own wilds. Those people eating insects as a natural food living in their own countries are eating wild insects, not raised. The world is already full of natural insects, why do we need to create more? Just go out into your backyard and catch your dinner.
